When developing your core, common vocab lists, the Marzano book is invaluable.  (Building Academic Vocabualry)  But, if you give the NWEA MAPS tests, also check the Des Cartes service.  It gives key vocabulary words for each of the RIT levels...a big help when trying to align your curriculum and assessment systems.

This is the first post for the ESU 13 Vocabulary Learning Community. I plan to contribute to this discussion when I am able to find information that may be valuable to this group. My hope is that this will become an active community with many people contributing for the benefit of all. I did a quick search and found a vocabulary list on an online bookmarking site. One of the links in the list was to a Six-step Building Academic Vocabulary Program: Flash presentation.
